Who Wants Sarah Palin?
Posted July 13th, 2009 at 9:34 AM by Jeff A. Taylor
For a fund-raiser, I mean.
Are there any local candidates willing to bring Palin in? It would take guts and an independent streak, not exactly something we’ve had by the bucket around here.
But if you were plotting a run against Larry Kissell and figured you’d have to get by Robin Hayes in the primary, maybe Sarah becomes your go-to gal. Conversely, does Palin say no to the likes of Hayes, an archetype of the log-rolling, cynical politics she claims to be on the warpath against?
Here’s a fun one — Health Shuler. Would test both Shuler’s supposed “conservative” cred and Palin’s shrewd pledge to campaign for candidates regardless of party. Seriously doubt that ever happens, though.
I do know, however, that it will be very interesting to watch candidates and campaigns navigate around the Sarah Palin question for the next year or so.
Bonus Observation: Richard Burr and Paul Shumaker so deserve each other.

I find her political prowess (or lack there-of) somewhat intriguing. Whether you like her or not, I think people are riveted about what she will do or say next. Sounds like a good keynote speaker for a fundraiser if you ask me.

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I think — but it would take a strong candidate able to shake off any “news” she makes if it does not comport totally with what they want to say. In other words, they’d have to be very comfortable in their own skin, know their issues, and not be beholden to polls and consultants.

I still think Ted Stevens will be forced out and her Lt. Governor will appoint her in his place.

COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families who are struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries; allow them to spend more and put more money into the economy instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?
PALIN: That’s why I say I, like every American I’m speaking with, were ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health-care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, helping the—it’s got to be all about job creation, too, shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health-care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. And trade, we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, scary thing. But one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today, we’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.
It should frighten every American that Ms. Palin is allowed to *cast* a ballot, much less be *on* one.

Those are the incoherent ramblings of the McCain campaign spilling out of her. Is she Churchill? No.
Does she scare the bejebus out of every professional pol and hanger-on? Yep. And I’ll take what I can get at this point.
The GOP chattering class wants to run Romney-Huckabee — or vice versa — and lose about 48 states in the process. Either Palin is at the top of the ticket or I KNOW there is another four years of Obamareich.

I don’t know…I’ve got to think that the only way Obama loses reelection is if people look back and say…
“We were duped by hope and change and elected an inexperienced guy who was in way over his head, and he’s seriously damaged the country.”
How does Palin solve that problem? 3 years from now she’ll still be the ex-Governor from Alaska who quit in the middle of her term, and Obama will have been President for 4 years.
Not that I want Romney and Huckabee is way to cheesy. I just don’t think people who regret voting in one inexperienced guy will make that same choice again.

As hope n change guts the military to help pay for his vote buying schemes it will take just one foreign policy disaster or 1 domestic terrorist attack(which they’ll try to blame on anyone other than al Queda) to run him out of DC and oust Pelosi and Reid from leadership positions.

Ah, but the left will have already emptied their clip on Sarah. Not so any other candidate the GOP throws up.
And you have to understand how hard the left and what remains of the MSM will fight to get Obama that “validation” of a second-term. If you remotely play by the conventional “rules” you’ll have no chance. None.

Palin got me enthused about the election. I thought the Republicans actually had a chance when McCain announced her. When Obama chose Biden, I was like “Obama chose his insurance policy well!” (I can pray for Obama’s good health fervently). Palin’s not perfect, but she represents and relates to the vast majority of “regular people” better than any other GOP candidate so far. I’d most likely vote for any candidate that she supports.
I agree with Jeff, the MSM & Obama’s continuous campaign give him a great advantage over any conventional candidate (my opinion: Romney = boring schmoozer I trust as much as Obama).

PS – The mailings and emails I get from Kissell look just like the ones I used to get from Hayes. It’s as if they’re from the same person… saying & doing the same things!

Interesting about Kissell, proof positive of a poll-driven member trying to eek-out that first term. Not unusual. That’s why I think you gotta come from outside the box to beat him, especially if money is gonna be a wash.
Oh, and I got robo-polled by Sue yesterday. Actually asked about Ron Paul’s “audit-the-Fed” as if the Fed is the source of everything that went ka-phoey. Sue flip-flopped on the Bush bailout. No running from that. Ever.
