DeMint vs. Graham
Posted May 18th, 2009 at 6:32 AM by Jeff A. TaylorBig fun at the Sandlapper GOP convention.
Gov. Mark Sanford listed lawmakers in the General Assembly who stood with him to oppose accepting some federal stimulus money. Sanford does not want to take a portion of the federal money unless the state pays off an equivalent amount of debt.
If your lawmakers weren’t named, Sanford urged, then call them.
But U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham followed with a fiery speech that drew jeers from the crowd.
Graham told the crowd there was nothing wrong with any conservative, and he wanted to build an open party that could win in Pennsylvania and Connecticut, as well as South Carolina.
“You’re a hypocrite!” one man yelled.
“I’m a winner, pal,” Graham shot back. “Winning matters to me. If it doesn’t matter to you, there’s the exit sign.”
“Ron Paul is not the leader of this party,” Graham said, prompting a few jeers. Some people yelled, “Yes, he is!”
“I’m not going to give this party over to people who can’t win,” Graham finished, drawing most of the crowd to its feet.
But U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, who followed Graham, said he’d rather have 30 senators who stand on principle than 60 who have none.
Who else thinks Lindsey just painted a huge, national bulls-eye on his back?

Graham provokes his own party more than he does the democrats. Colin Powell and Graham would make a dream ticket for the RHINO’S.

The GOP is only one Obama Foreign Policy disaster from being back in power.

This is a prime example why the GOP is getting trounced by the Dems these days on every level. Just because Graham is 95 percent GOP and five percent other he gets hammered by the radical right for not being republican enough. And seriously folks, this whole “rhino” thing is just silly.
Graham is right. If republicans want to win they can’t go around with this self righteous, all or nothing attitude. It gets the party no where. I wish the GOP would break away from the wacked out christian right/talk radio and get back to being a party of liberty.

For once, I agree with howie. Good comment, sir

Conservatives aren’t looking for all-or-nothing. They are just looking for someone who doesn’t run to the nearest camera to suck up to the media when breaking from conservatives on important issues like immigration, treatment of terrorist thugs, or judicial nominees. It’s a heck of a lot more than 5% of the time.

Howie,
Some things are all or nothing, I get this feeling that the republican party you wish for would be nothing but a bunch of moderates who can be pushed around at will by the democratic party, and say LOOK we still have a two party system see how good it works!!!

Howie, show me where Grahamnesty has demonstrated a love of liberty.

Yeah, I was little concerned that the original State report left out stuff, and sure enough, it did. “I’m not a libertarian…we’re not gonna build the party around libertarian ideas.”
We know Lindsey, we know.

musicmax,
There are 40,000 or more examples of Graham’s idea of liberty living in Mecklenburg county,to bad all of these examples of liberty do not have to obey the same laws as American citizens who do OBEY the laws of our state and country. Graham just wants the American taxpayer to pay for all of this nonsense so he appears to be some great statesman .
Liberty always comes with a price ,either with the lives of service men or just plain hard work and decent living. Graham just wants to bypass or set aside some of these ideas just so that a bunch of RHINOS can win on election day.
Would anyone who comments on this site give a drug addict a bag of money and expect them to get better? Politicians like Lindsey Graham, (democrats and republicans) who accept bailout money and proceed to spend it are just like crack heads who delude themselves into thinking they will try to get better tomorrow as they are buying todays supply of crack.
The comparisons are endless when the actions of todays political crop of leaders are put in the context of a drug addict and their dysfunctional lives.

Actually the “New Whig Party” has a RINO platform. Perhaps Lindsey should switch over.

“Would anyone who comments on this site give a drug addict a bag of money and expect them to get better?”
As Ron Paul said once when asked why he accepts money from the government for his congressional district, it’s our money! Why wouldn’t I want to return it to the people of my district.

howie,
Please ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, It is not wrong to accept money for basic government services.
Do you allow yourself to carry much cash? I would bet it is hard for you to pass by the guys standing in the middle of the road holding signs that say (hungry homeless)and not give it all away to them!
ALS-advanced liberal syndrome. This can be cured by standing in a public housing complex for a day and observing, for some its takes several days..WARNING do not do this with cash in your wallet.
