CATS: Bus vs. Train

Posted October 10th, 2008 at 8:03 AM by Jeff A. Taylor

bbHere’s an odd tangle. A CATS bus took out the crossing arm of the light rail line Wednesday night over by the Convention Center.

It looks like damage was minor and it does not seem possible anyone was injured, but who knows. All anyone is allowed to report on the CATS front is happy news.

Somehow the whole idea provides cartoon visions of the machines fighting for transit supremacy . . .

Uh oh. Now you got me thinking about re-working Rush’s The Trees into a transit meme…….

There is unrest here in Charlotte
there is trouble with the trains
for the lib’rals want free transit
and the right ignore their pains

    So the lib’rals started bitching
    and complaining about their plight
they say the roads are just too crowded
and to trains they have a right

But the right don’t see a problem
They say the roads will do just fine
And they wonder why the lib’rals
    Can’t do anything but whine

Makes a great poem on its on merit.

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

    The trouble with the maples,
(And they’re quite convinced they’re right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can’t help their feelings
If they like the way they’re made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can’t be happy in their shade.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
    As the maples scream “Oppression!”
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
    And demanded equal rights.
    “The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light.”
Now there’s no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
    By hatchet, axe, and saw.

    “THE TRAINS”

There is unrest here in Charlotte
there is trouble with the trains
for the lib’rals want free transit
and the right ignore their pains

    The lib’rals started wailing
    and complained about their plight
they say the roads are just too crowded
and to trains they have a right

But the right don’t see a problem
they say the roads will do just fine
and they wonder why the lib’rals
    can’t do anything but whine

There is trouble here in Charlotte
with the transit, don’t you know,
as the lib’rals scream “more choo-choos!”
and the right just say “oh, no”

So the lib’rals conned the public
and convinced them with their lies
    “the right are too greedy;
they will pay for our free rides”
now there’s much more tax oppression
for they passed a heinous law
and the proles are all kept equal
    by edict, tax, and law…

CATS bus drivers don’t have accidents.

I can testify to that personally as according the bus driver following me down Randolph and approaching a light, I suddenly and without cause, through my car into reverse and frontended the bus with my trunk. I’ve got to stop doing that.

It seems evident to me that the rail in the above picture simply threw itself at the stopped bus and then posed that way until the photo was taken.
