“The cost is what it is”

The cost being $170,000 in taxpayer money to junket the Easleys around Italy in a chauffeured Mercedes S-Class.
The N&O has more nauseating details on the trip, which of course was completely necessary to help “recruit” Italian business to North Carolina.
I wonder if Mike Easley visited Dovia di Predappio, birthplace of Benito Mussolini. Mussolini is buried in small crypt there. It would’ve been fitting for Easley to pay his respects to his fellow fascist leader.
Bonus Observation: Can I call Mike Easley a fascist without a charge of being full of venom, anger, and rage by NC’s power-worshipping “progressives?” Let’s find out.
Bonus Bonus Observation: A quick and dirty google produces no sign that the Easleys visit produced a ripple in Italy. Can the governor’s office produce any clips from the Italian media which covered the visit? Someone did cover this official state visit, correct?

The Charlotte Observer has this story on the front page of Charlotte.com. I wonder if they will hold to the usual pattern of including a much shorter version of the story than used by the N&O?
The only thing I’d wish for concerning Mike Easley’s trip to Italy is that he’d stayed there. Beyond that, though, it looks to me like he just got the taxpayers of North Carolina to pay for him and his wife to have a very nice vacation.

Wow: The front page, Big Headline on Charlotte.com for the Easley/Italy story disappeared completely within a span of 35 minutes. It’s not listed on the front page at all now.
What the hell is going on at the Charlotte Observer/Charlotte.com?

They’ve gotta get the damn Hens of Hell story back up there. Note the oh-so-proud subhead Hearing prompted by Observer poultry series.
NO ONE CARES, you idiots.
Besides, this now is so clearly a union-set up job it is not funny. If Rick Thames has not already entered “The Cruelest Cuts” in every English-language journalism contest known to man — especially the Big P — I will never eat chicken again.

[...] Really now, you cannot get more low rent than our Rock Mount potentate spending $109,000 in public money to send his wife on junkets to France and Russia. As was the case for the Easleys’ “business recruiting” trip to Italy, Mary Easley required a chauffeured Mercedes-Benz to be on-call. Cost taxpayers for car: More than $27,000 the N&O reports. [...]
