Dumb Rev. Wright Ad?
Posted April 23rd, 2008 at 12:36 PM by Jeff A. TaylorI think so. I think the NC GOP is stretching too far in trying to tie Democratic candidates for governor to Rev. Jeremiah Wright. They endorsed Barack Obama, not the Rev. Wright.
Is there still shock value in Wright damning America from his pulpit? I guess for those shut-ins without cable TV lo these many weeks. That’s not a big demographic, especially in financial terms as the NC GOP intends this ad to function chiefly as a fund-raising tool.
Now, I suppose that HRC could get the most immediate bump from this ad as it goes up this week, which is an interesting political bankshot. Working-class male Democrats — of the kind that turned out to support HRC in PA — might decide that one more clip of the Rev. is the last straw.
But I’d love to fast forward to the day after the general election to see if this particular investment in money and message pays off for state GOPers. I have serious doubts that it does.
Update: I see that Bob Orr agrees with me.
Update II: Michelle Malkin shills for Linda Daves. Small world.

The picture of Obama with his arm around Perdue, needs to be emphasized more. Whether the add works or not (I think it will have some favorable affect for the GOP), it’s nice to see the GOP willing to fight fire with fire for once in a long time.

I think the ad is clumsy. I don’t think it is useful comparison to make. The dems running for Gov have nothing to do with Rev Wright.
It would be a useful attack ad on Obama himself in November.

Another “bankshot” is the benefit that John McCain derives from demanding the ad be pulled.

I quite agree – it has the appearance of stretching to make connections. From the Perdue standpoint, it’s almost beneficial as in, “If the worst thing you can say about me is that I’ve met someone who knows someone that said something…”
It still is and always will be an issue for a lot of folks regarding Obama despite the MoveOn apparatus. But NC GOPneeds has enough to talk about with the Democratic Party in NC without trying to ride on those kinds of coat tails.

Ha ha! You mean the corrupt Down East kleptocracy John Rhodes and Fern Shubert risked their political careers to expose? The one that has DROPPED OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH in an election year?
Why, it is almost like Republicans in Raleigh have something to hide. Either that, or their greatest goal is to gain power and do for their cronies what Black-Basnight-Easley did for their gang.
If so, the hell with them.

[...] But I still believe that the NC GOP will gain little to no benefit from the ad — even with Rush telling listeners to send money to the state party. He also told them to stop John McCain from gaining the nomination. How’d that turn out? [...]

[...] Jeff Taylor of the Meck Deck – who I’ve criticized in the past – did a great job of keeping up with this story throughout the day (here and here) [...]
